DEFENSE CAREER INTERN PROGRAM
for
ENGINEERS and SCIENTISTS
TINKER AIR FORCE BASE
Authority: Executive Order 13162, 5 CFR 213.3202 (o)
Purpose: To recruit, train and develop individuals for professional positions in the federal civilian service.
Coverage: All entry-level exceptional individuals into the Scientific and Engineering occupations are hired in Pay Band YD-1 of the National Security Personnel System (NSPS) a performance based personnel system. Below is a brief overview of the program and not intended to cover all regulatory requirements.
Requirements:
- Excepted Service Appointment
- Full-time employment
- Agency will provide a 2-year individual development program.
- Trainees will need to successfully meet all qualification, suitability, and performance requirements for noncompetitive conversion from an excepted service appointment to a career appointment
- Trainees will serve on a probationary period for 2 years
- Veterans preference does apply
- Pay increases within Pay Band YD-1 will remain in accordance with the accelerated compensation for developmental positions (ACDP).

- Trainees that receive a recruitment bonus will be required to sign a 2-year service agreement. If you leave before completing the 2-year service, you will be required to pay back a pro rated amount.
